The council is going to spend £1.3m of Sustainable Transport Funds to cosmetically improve the Mount Pleasant area of Tunbridge Wells. Councillor McDermott stated that the money will be used to continue what they have “been doing at Fiveways”.
The money has come from a local government fund for improving sustainable transport in the borough. We doubt however that this tarting-up will relieve congestion and pollution, which in our opinion, is what is desperately needed. Should we not hold off on the coloured paving and cosmetic niceties and use the money to address what it is meant to be used for, and what is well overdue?
The work is planned between the junction of Monson Road (by Prezzo) to the junction with Church Road (by Cote Brasserie) in 2018.
Is this how you would choose to spend £1.3m of transport funds?
